Our ministry is blessed with an amazing staff! Our purpose is to help campers and families grow closer to Christ. To accomplish this, we train enthusiastic staff members who are excited about Christ and about making a life-changing impact on our kids. They are eager to have an awesome week with each camper, making memories that will last a lifetime.

Experience with children, personal and spiritual maturity and aptitude for building healthy relationships within the camp setting are crucial in the selection of our staff. Their love for Jesus, people, and life in general makes them the great role models we want for your children. The average age of our summer staff is 22 years old and most are college students. Some are school teachers and coaches. The maximum camper to counselor ratio is eight to one and often as low as five to one. The camper to staff ratio averages a very low three to one.

In addition to a full time staff, we are blessed with dedicated volunteers. These generous individuals join our team for a week or more, serving in a variety of roles. Our entire staff is carefully screened and trained to ensure the safety and enjoyment of each child in our program.

Much of our education comes through books that others have written, or television, radio, and computers. Even much of what we believe is based on what others have said. Until we have had personal experience, our faith lacks conviction and energy. Camping provides us with such grand opportunities: to see and feel oneself as a part of the world which God has created, to sense the plan and purpose of all creation, to experience the depth of Christian fellowship within the small camp community, and to come to an awareness of one’s position as a steward of God’s blessings.

Aldersgate provides countless opportunities for children and adults to deepen their understanding of God and experience Christian love in practice. Through the various activities, carefully selected curriculum, hand-picked staff, creative programming, and intentional schedules, campers are encouraged to develop new skills and are mentored to give their best, in a group where every individual is a valued member.

As a child growing up in the country, I was blessed with many opportunities to experience God in Creation. Numerous family camping trips, years of summer camp, all-day excursions with my brothers in our wilderness fort, and caring for wooly creatures, gradually blended with the stories that I had been hearing in Sunday school and deepened my conviction to know more about God. My passion in life is that every child, no matter what background, would have the opportunity to experience the awesome love of Jesus Christ, while living close to the realities of God’s world.
